Coverage for Full-Time Students
Every year, Dean Health Plan (DHP) mails out a questionnaire to determine
the eligibility of dependents who are full-time students. This questionnaire
helps us determine whether they qualify as dependents as
defined in the Member Certificate. These questionnaires are mailed to
members whose policy limits coverage of dependents older than age 19
to full-time students. For your dependent to qualify for insurance as a fulltime
student, he or she must meet the following criteria:
- Be a qualified dependent (biological child, adopted child, stepchild or legal ward)
- Be registered full-time at an accredited post–high school academic, professional or trade school; generally requires 12 or more credits per semester
- Provide less than 50 percent of his or her own financial support
- Be unmarried
- Not be on active duty in the armed forces
If you receive a questionnaire, fill it out and return it so that our records are up-to-date. If we do not receive the questionnaire, we will assume that your dependent no longer qualifies, and his or her coverage will end.
If your dependent attends school out of our service area, your policy may have a special provision for out-of-area coverage.
