Coverage for Full-Time Students

Every year, Dean Health Plan (DHP) mails out a questionnaire to determine the eligibility of dependents who are full-time students. This questionnaire helps us determine whether or not they qualify as full-time students as defined in the Member Certificate. These questionnaires are mailed to members who have dependents older than age 19. For your dependent to qualify for insurance as a full-time student, he or she must meet all the following criteria:

• Be a qualified dependent (biological child, adopted child, stepchild or legal ward)
• Be a registered full-time student at an accredited post–high school academic, professional or trade school; generally requires 12 or more credits per semester
• Provide less than 50 percent of his or her own financial support
• Be unmarried
• Not be on active duty in the armed forces

If you receive a questionnaire, fill it out and return it so that our records are up-to-date. If we do not receive the questionnaire, we will assume that your dependent no longer qualifies, and his or her coverage will end.
