Complements to Your Health

Photo of man using exercise machineHealth is more than the absence of disease or infirmity; it is a feeling of overall physical, mental and social well-being. Making improvements in one aspect of your health can have far-reaching effects in your overall sense of well-being. Dean Health Plan (DHP) is committed to helping you feel better, and we encourage members to take advantage of our Complementary Health Program.

Benefits and Reimbursement

DHP will reimburse eligible members 50 percent of the first $200 in qualified charges, with a maximum reimbursement of $100 per member per calendar year.

How and when do I receive reimbursement?

To receive payment, members simply send in a form — conveniently located on our Website at www.deancare.com — along with the service receipt and information for each service. You can also call our Customer Service Department at 608-828-1301 or 800-279-1301 to request a reimbursement form. We will reimburse each member directly, not the service provider. As you receive eligible services, send in your form and receipt with the necessary information, and we will send your payment every time until you reach the reimbursement maximum of $100.

Who is eligible?

All DHP members older than 18 are eligible to participate in the Complementary Health Program.

Eligible Programs and Services

Health club memberships.

Exercise has benefits beyond slimming down and building muscles. Regular exercise reduces your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes and obesity. It keeps joints, tendons and ligaments flexible; improves mental well-being and helps treat depression; and can relieve stress and anxiety. In addition, with regular exercise, you’ll have more energy and endurance, and you’ll sleep better.

Weight-management programs.

Obesity increases the risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and arthritis. And don’t overlook the negative influence that weight can have on emotional health. A personalized and supervised weight-management program that teaches healthful eating and emphasizes lifelong changes can help maintain a healthy weight. The focus of a reimbursable weight-management program is weight reduction. The program must include consistent health coaching to the participant. Internet programs are not reimbursable.

Acupuncture.

Originating in China more than 2,000 years ago, the term acupuncture describes a family of procedures involving stimulation of points on the body by a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique that has been most studied involves penetrating the skin with thin metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or electrical stimulation.

Massage therapy.

Massage therapy utilizes techniques involving manipulation of the soft tissues of the body through pressure and movement. Massage aims to develop, maintain and rehabilitate physical function; relieve pain; relax tight and tense muscles; improve circulation; reduce overall stress; and create a sense of relaxation and well-being.
