According to a recent Harris poll, 70 percent of American workers say their coworkers seem
more stressed out now, compared to a year ago.
One major cause of job stress is too much work. About one-third of employees report
being chronically overworked, in a 2004 survey by the Families and Work Institute. About
one-fifth say they sometimes or often work during their vacation.
Long-term job stress has been linked to cardiovascular disease, back pain, depression,
job burnout, workplace accidents and possibly less ability to fight off illnesses.
