Take a Trip to Dean Travel Medicine

Photo of map of SignaporeIf you’re traveling abroad, you’ve probably planned many details, from where you’ll stay and what you’ll see to who will water your plants while you’re gone. But have you made plans to stay healthy and safe? If you haven’t prepared for the possible illnesses and diseases that occur in other parts of the world, you may become ill.

For people planning to travel outside the United States, particularly to countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America or Eastern Europe, it is especially important to see a travel medicine specialist.

Up-to-Date Information
You may need immunizations before traveling abroad. Dean Travel Medicine is the place to go for those necessary shots, and they also provide much more. Dean’s expert staff are knowledgeable on a variety of travel concerns. They provide destination-specific recommendations based on the most current information, including daily updates about disease outbreak information, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and U.S. State Department travel advisories.

Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
Some immunizations should be given several weeks prior to travel for full effectiveness, about six to eight weeks before your departure. If you’ve missed that timeline, it’s still a good idea to make an appointment with Dean Travel Medicine before your trip.

During the appointment, you will provide a detailed review of your itinerary, your medical history, current medications, allergies, prior immunizations and previous travel experience. The staff at Dean Travel Medicine will also educate you on staying safe and preventing illness abroad.

Dean Travel Medicine is located at the Dean Clinic, Internal Medicine, First Floor, 1313 Fish Hatchery Road. To make an appointment, call 608-252-8020.
