Do You Have Diabetes?

Photo of manThere is good evidence that doctor intervention during routine office visits to monitor your diabetes can help keep you healthy. Talk with your doctor to see how often you should have the following services (these are only general guidelines).

Lipid profile testEvery yearChecks for cholesterol buildup in the arteries
A1c testEvery three to six monthsChecks your overall blood sugar
Microalbumin/creatinine ratio testEvery yearChecks kidney function
Dilated eye examEvery yearChecks eye health
Dental cleaning and examEvery six monthsPrevents and checks for gum disease
Flu shot (influenza vaccine)Every yearReduces risk for influenza complications
